2011 Season Recap

October 1, 2011

Congratulations to everyone for working so hard throughout the season.  We had another year of 20 teams putting their time in to do everything they could to be successful from day 1 till the end.  Don’t take that for granted, because it is still rare for a league of this size to have such devotion.

Obviously, we have a new champion, Peter Rimmereid, of Garlicion.  Peter has been on the cusp of this championship for the past three years, and he finally got it.  Way to go Peter!  I know the end of the season can feel a bit anticlimactic for the winners, but just know that you have 19 teams looking up feeling very very impressed.  Excellent work this year.  You are officially the reigning champion.

Two teams had to follow up outstanding 2010s to prove that they were no rookie fluke.  They certainly did as Flying Buttresses and Thunder Muscles placed 4th and 5th.  They are now on the leaderboard in a big way.  No one can doubt them now.  These two teams are very legit.

Okama Maggies also proved that anyone who questioned if 2010 was a fluke is wrong, as he pulled up in the top 10 for the second consecutive year.   He is out of the bottom five and not looking back. Speaking of out of the bottom five, Dead Motherboards had a very much improved 2011, pulling in a very respectable 8th place.

We had some great first years out of our newest rookies.  Dumpster Donkeys, has definitely put his name on the map as a threat in Cold Zipper and certainly scared the crap out of Cold Zipper veterans like me that we would have our second straight rookie championship.  We will see how he can follow it up in 2012.  Twin Cities Cubbies, Killer Dawgs, Prestige Worldwide, and Red Krush all put in a great effort for their beginning year of Cold Zipper.  Although the bottom 10 can be frustrating, its where a lot of us have had to start in our first year of Cold Zipper.  With a little evolution, a great 2012 can definitely be had.  Thanks for joining us rookies!

Congratulations to Flying Buttresses, Peehands, and Dead Motherboards.  I don’t know if you realized it, but you set some Cold Zipper Records this year.  Although we strive to build balanced championship teams, it is fun to see how one statistic could be so dominated by a single team.  Nice work guys!

Lastly, I will just say it.  The Walapin’ Walabees are not what they used to be.  There has been a lack of fantasy strategy evolution with this team, and it’s time to change.  If the Walapin’ Walabees are to ever prove to be…unstoppable…again, there needs to be something different with the way this team works.

I hope everyone had fun in Cold Zipper this season.  Tim did a good job of commissioning, and thank you for making some very needed changes in the way the league is run.  For those who wish to see some more rule changes in 2012, make yourself known.  We can’t wait until draft day to push for something new.  Below is some stats I put together from Cold Zipper 2011.  I added some newer parts to it, I hope it is not confusing.  Specifically a section to show how missing one start for a player, can make a difference in the end.

I hope everyone is coming back in 2012, we had some great teams.  Enjoy your football and hockey, then study up and come back fighting for Cold Zipper glory.  Thanks!

-Mark
